WALTER E. "BUSTER" CARTEE
Walter E. "Buster" Cartee 86, died Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Memorial Health University Medical Center. Mr. Cartee was a native of Metter, Georgia and a longtime resident of Savannah. He was a member of Savannah Progressive Primitive Church and had attended Armstrong State College. Mr. Cartee was one of the original members of the 158th Air National Guard Fighter Squadron serving in Japan and Korea in the early 50's. He returned to Travis Field in 1952. In 1960, Mr. Cartee was elevated to Senior Master Sergeant, the first to be designated in the Georgia Air National Guard.Upon his returning to Travis Field he became a member of the 165th and retired as Chief Master Sergeant from the 165th in 1981. In 1980 he was selected as the Air Force Association-Lockheed Georgia Cargo Aircraft Technician of the year.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jackquelyn Cartee.
Surviving are, his sons, Gary Michael Cartee and wife Jan of Bloomingdale, Georgia. and Walter Edward Cartee Jr. and wife Victoria of Ponte Vedra, Florida. Also surviving are his four grandchildren, Valerie Lynne Morton, Gary Kevin Cartee, Robert Edward Cartee and Kelly Jackquelyn Cartee.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 20, 2008 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel with burial in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
